Outreach Program
In support of its public
service
goals, MDAS, through its Outreach Program, provides opportunities for
hands-on experiences with amateur astronomy.
We will gladly organize an astronomy night for your school, youth group,
or other community organization. Our members volunteer their time and
their telescopes to bring the Universe to you. We also provide
knowledgeable speakers and activities on various astronomy topics either
in a classroom/meeting setting or in conjunction with a night at the
telescopes. All of our
programs are no-cost, but we do accept donations to help offset our
printing and outreach expenses.
We have a few requirements if you would like a night with the
telescopes. For example,
the stars and faint celestial objects are best viewed without a
full moon, and at a site with access to a fair portion of the
sky, minimal artificial lighting, and easy access for setting up our
telescopes. Please give yourself ample time to organize and publicize,
and for us to staff, your event. Lastly, we want to make sure we can
accommodate the size of your group.
If you are interested in our programs, please contact MDAS Outreach
Coordinator, Jim Head at: Outreach Coordinator @ MDAS,
or request your event directly
using the Night Sky Network, or
view our event calendar
to check availability.
