Models of both the Space Shuttle and one of the Mars Rovers is included. These displays have generated interest towards the MDAS. MDAS displays are put up within Contra Costa County during the year.

Public Night - 4/4/2003 - The Night of the “Sun Dog”
The 4/05/2003 Public Night on Mt. Diablo had a disappointing start -- It was cold and cloudy. In fact, only 4 or 5 cars showed up in the parking lot. We still managed to have a pretty good, but short, evening with the public. At sunset, we had a pleasant surprise, as witnessed in the pictures below

Here we have Richard Crapuchettes, Ranger Mike Rodriques, Marni Berendsen, and her husband Richard gazing at that pleasant surprise

Society Night - 6/29/2002
The 6/29/2002 Society Night on Mt. Diablo had a disappointing start -- the wind was kicking up, but most of the 25 people that were there kept vigilant, and were rewarded later on (well, much later on -- the wind didn't die down until close to midnight). By then the Milky Way was quite visible, the moon still hadn't risen high enough to be an issue, and seeing was terrific. As I indicated earlier, there were 25 people in attendance with 15 Telescopes.
Here are some pictures of the early arrivers:
Chuck Smith is in the final stages of setting up his new home-built Dobsonian. In the foreground, Glenn Spiegelman's 8" SCT is all set for some solar viewing, the sun was still high enough over the trees to get some good views of the solar disk.
Rich Ozer is seen here planning out his viewing for the evening
Here's Pete Schneider setting up his 22" Dobsonian.
Tom Harris made it back from Alaska in time for this society night. You would think that after a few days of the Alaskan 24-hour sunlight he would have had enough, but here he is with Steve Jacobs -- trying to do some solar imaging with his Digital Camera.
