Glenn Spiegelman - Clusters

NextUpPrevious

There are some clusters that are much more than a clump of stars, here are some of my favorites.

NGC 663
NGC 663

NGC 663: An open cluster in the constellation Cassiopeia

NGC 869 / 884
NGC 869/884

NGC 869/884: Also known as the the Double Cluster in Perseus. These are 2 open clusters in close proximity in the constellation Perseus

NGC 6819
NGC 6819

NGC 6819: Also known as the Fox-head Cluster. It is located in the constellation Cygnus, and is a very rich star field that, with a little imagination, appears to look like a fox's head -- Just left and right of the central core, you will see the apparition of two oval eyes, and just below the central core, a little imagination shows the snoot of the fox. Click on the image to enlarge it and see if you can make it out.

NGC 2264
NGC 2264

NGC 2264: This cluster with faint nebulosity is found in the constellation Monoceros. It is also known as the Christmas Tree Cluster due to its' distinctive shape
