Mount Diablo Astronomical Society

Jon Pannier

As a young boy growing up in Chicago I looked forward to the monthly visits my Dad and I would make to the Adler Planetarium. My parents gave me a 60-mm refractor and I have been interested in astronomy ever since. I live in Suisun City which suffers from light pollution like the entire Bay Area, so I travel to dark sky sites for my photography.
My Telescope: An orange Celestron C-8 that I purchased many years ago from Owen Durden.

Milky Way In Sagittarius
Milky Way In Sagittarius
My favorite dark sky location has a good southern horizon. I used Ekatachrome 400 for this long exposure.
Hale Bopp
Hale Bopp
This image of Comet Hale Bopp passing through the Milky Way near the North American Nebula is my favorite. This was a "piggy back" picture from my C-8 taken on Royal Gold 400.
The Great Orion Nebula
The Great Orion Nebula
I took this with my C-8 operating at F/6.3 on Fuji 800. Like all amateur astro photographers I had to try my skill on this spectacular nebula.
M 13: The King of Spring
M 13: The King of Spring
I used Fuji 800 for this six minute exposure. This image does start to bring out the red and blue stars that characterizes M 13.
Solar Eclipse - June 10, 2002
Solar Eclipse - June 10, 2002
This image was taken near mid eclipse. An Orion full aperture glass solar filter was used on my C-8. I was using Fuji Superia film for this 1/250 of a second exposure. Note how much less luminous the limb of the sun is than closer to the center.
